Simply Talker Screen Reader

This is another experiment in pileup query.
I used only the simple search to collect the initial information and the pileups.

Original Query was: Simply Talker

I slightly edited the results and erased duplicates.

Conclusions: Pileups were informative but the picture from the original results page was quite enough.

This is the first results page:

This screen reader has a Smart-Tracking feature that reads with a human-like voice what the user is doing on the screen.
It is 100% accessible when used in conjunction with our screen reader, Simply Talker 98. This Web browser uses Internet Explorer 3.02 or greater.
However, optimum performance and accessibility are achieved when using it with Internet Explorer 4.01. If you have installed or purchased our latest screen reader, Simply Talker 98, you do not need to download and install this Web browser because it comes bundled with the program. http://www.handiham.org/dmm_details.htm
The software is free, and the digital multimeter is available from Radio Shack for a regular price of $59.99, although it is sometimes on sale for 10 or 20 dollars less. I have tested the multimeter interface software with demonstration versions of JAWS for Windows version 3.35, WindowEyes version 3.1, and Simply Talker 2000. It works quite well with JAWS and WindowEyes and can be made to give readings with Simply Talker.
In JFW, the command is “insert s”, and in Window Eyes it is ‘insert a”. In Simply Talker, you will have to hit the F9 function key every time you want to read what the DMM interface software is displaying on the screen. Those are the only screen readers I have tried with this software.
With Simply Talker, hit the Enter key followed by the F9 key to get a new reading.
When you press the V key, the display will show “say all readings”, and when you press the letter M, the display will show “say changes only”. Note: The V and M keys have no effect when you are using a screen reader like Simply Talker that requires a key press to activate the readings anyway. http://www.nfbcal.org/nfb-rd/1559.html

Your screen reader will speak the multimeter’s readings and identify in plain English what function the meter is measuring; for example “minus 3.14 volts DC”. But before purchasing a multimeter, please read through this document to see if it is likely to work with your hardware and software.
In Simply Talker, you will have to hit the F9 function key every time you want to read what the DMM interface software is displaying on the screen. Those are the only screen readers I have tried with this software.
